Bailout Plan Rejected, But is it Dead?

Check out this The Wall Street Journal article

Considering elections are coming up, the pressure for incumbent representatives to vote NO was extremely high. I'm sure my own Democratic Congressman had many many threats from conservatives--threats stating he better oppose the bill or else they'd vote him out in November.

Finally, here's Ron Paul's opinion of the vote just after it failed:

Panel of Election Officials to Discuss Voting System Integrity for November Elections

University of Texas at Austin Article

The Center for Politics and Governance (CPG) at the LBJ School of Public Affairs will host a panel of prominent election officials for "Voting System Integrity: Can We Be Confident in the Accuracy of the Results?" at 2 p.m., Sept. 29 at the AT&T Executive Education and Conference Center on The University of Texas at Austin campus.

Highlighting the discussion will be Rosemary Rodriguez, chairwoman of the U.S. Election Assistance Commission which oversees voting system certification; Doug Chapin, director of electionline.org, the division of the Pew Charitable Trusts and an expert on election law/policy news; Dan Wallach, technology professor at Rice University and a prominent critic of paperless electronic voting systems; and David Beirne, executive director of the Election Technology Council, the national trade organization for voting system vendors. Ray Martinez, a former U.S. Election Assistance commissioner and a fellow with the Center for Politics and Governance, will lead the panel.

For a state and local perspective, the panel will also include Ann McGeehan, Elections Division director for the Texas Secretary of State's office, and Dana DeBeauvoir, Travis County Clerk (and LBJ School alumna) whose office manages Travis County's paperless electronic voting system. More information about the event can be found on the Center for Politics and Governance Web site. A webcast of the event will also be available on the site.

"Across the country polling officials are worried that an influx of new voters and new voting technologies may overload electoral systems resulting in long lines, over-stressed poll workers and late-night tallies all of which could have significant impact on the election," said Veronica Vargas Stidvent, director of CPG. "Recent experience suggests that these concerns are warranted, particularly the recent cases of presidential ballots in Florida in 2000 and Ohio in 2004, and congressional races in California and Florida in 2006.

"Since 2000, federal and state governments have enacted laws—particularly the federal Help America Vote Act—to improve balloting by insuring the transparency and accuracy of voting systems," Martinez said. "The panel will discuss whether these laws actually improved the functioning and operation of the myriad of voting systems used throughout the country today. Is the U.S. Election Assistance Commission's authority to 'certify and decertify' voting systems improving the accuracy of vote totals? Should the voting public feel more confident in the accuracy of voting systems today than in 2000?"

Love

When love beckons to you, follow him,
Though his ways are hard and steep.
And when his wings enfold you yield to him,
Though the sword hidden among his pinions may wound you.
And when he speaks to you believe in him,
Though his voice may shatter your dreams
as the north wind lays waste the garden.

For even as love crowns you so shall he crucify you. Even as he is for your growth so is he for your pruning.
Even as he ascends to your height and caresses your tenderest branches that quiver in the sun,
So shall he descend to your roots and shake them in their clinging to the earth.

Like sheaves of corn he gathers you unto himself.
He threshes you to make you naked.
He sifts you to free you from your husks.
He grinds you to whiteness.
He kneads you until you are pliant;
And then he assigns you to his sacred fire, that you may become sacred bread for God's sacred feast.

All these things shall love do unto you that you may know the secrets of your heart, and in that knowledge become a fragment of Life's heart.

But if in your fear you would seek only love's peace and love's pleasure,
Then it is better for you that you cover your nakedness and pass out of love's threshing-floor,
Into the seasonless world where you shall laugh, but not all of your laughter, and weep, but not all of your tears.
Love gives naught but itself and takes naught but from itself.
Love possesses not nor would it be possessed;
For love is sufficient unto love.

When you love you should not say, "God is in my heart," but rather, "I am in the heart of God."
And think not you can direct the course of love, for love, if it finds you worthy, directs your course.

Love has no other desire but to fulfill itself.
But if you love and must needs have desires, let these be your desires:
To melt and be like a running brook that sings its melody to the night.
To know the pain of too much tenderness.
To be wounded by your own understanding of love;
And to bleed willingly and joyfully.
To wake at dawn with a winged heart and give thanks for another day of loving;
To rest at the noon hour and meditate love's ecstasy;
To return home at eventide with gratitude;
And then to sleep with a prayer for the beloved in your heart and a song of praise upon your lips.

Battle in Seattle - The People vs the WTO

Tomorrow Battle in Seattle will be playing in select cities. It's based on the 1999 World Trade Organization riots in Seattle, Washington. It signified the first major internet-based revolt against the rising New World Order.

This movie might be a good history lesson.

Trailer:

The '99 Seattle protests were commonly referred to in the popular media as the "Seattle Riots," though in fact they were a highly organized series of nonviolent actions by a diverse array of public interests -- labor unions, religious groups, student organizations, anarchists, environmentalists and national and international nonprofit organizations -- all of whom shared a common enemy, the WTO. The film Battle in Seattle depicts what was in fact a pinnacle moment in the history of social action -- many groups coming together to voice their concerns over globalization and corporate control of trade. This was the first protest primarily organized through cell phones and the internet, giving activists an unprecedented ability to organize on the streets. It took months for organizers to plan the protests, and it is now widely held as the most successful "mass action" to date.

Heading downtown again...

I saw an article in the Austin Chronicle where the author said a vote for a 3rd party is a sideline vote.

WRONG WRONG WRONG!

A vote for a 3rd party is a vote against the status quo! That's hardly a sideline vote! It's a vote for TRUE FREEDOM!!!

STATUS QUOBAMA
OR JOHN McSAME?
FUCK THAT!
I'M VOTING 3RD PARTY!

So anyway, I'm going to do some Physics homework, and then I'm getting dressed to give out more free hugs downtown. This time my buddy James is joining me! I hope I can get others to come!

Hurricane Party

Another splendiforous night greeting and hugging lots of folks from out of town who were running from Ike.

This time I got photographed by a professional.

In return for my service, I got 6 free kisses on the cheek, a stack of promotional cards to take to work, and a small batch of cards good for complimentary drinks that I ended up handing out to every person I met having a birthday.

One man came rushing to me with open arms saying, "Austin is like the Boulder, Colorado of Texas!" Another man from Venezuela said he had seen someone campaigning for "Abrazos Gratis" in his country before. Several men from Turkey were so pleased to see me acting out what is a very common custom in their culture.

A few times groups of guys would join my campaign, borrow my sign, and try out their own techniques to get as many hugs as they could. I inspired a great many of men last night.

What a great way to have fun and not spend any money!!! Oh, and I saw Leslie wearing a cheerleading outfit again, the famous homeless cross-dresser also known as "The Queen of Austin." Perhaps I might become a regular like him. ;D

The Lesser of 3 Evils. Vote Nader in 2008.

Ron Paul refuses to join a 3rd party and refuses to specifically endorse any third-party candidates, but...

Ron Paul, Ralph Nader, Chuck Baldwin, and Cynthia McKinney held a press conference today and agree on 4 crucial issues:

Foreign Policy: The Iraq War must end as quickly as possible with removal of all our soldiers from the region. We must initiate the return of our soldiers from around the world, including Korea, Japan, Europe and the entire Middle East. We must cease the war propaganda, threats of a blockade and plans for attacks on Iran, nor should we re-ignite the cold war with Russia over Georgia. We must be willing to talk to all countries and offer friendship and trade and travel to all who are willing. We must take off the table the threat of a nuclear first strike against all nations.

Privacy: We must protect the privacy and civil liberties of all persons under US jurisdiction. We must repeal or radically change the Patriot Act, the Military Commissions Act, and the FISA legislation. We must reject the notion and practice of torture, eliminations of habeas corpus, secret tribunals, and secret prisons. We must deny immunity for corporations that spy willingly on the people for the benefit of the government. We must reject the unitary presidency, the illegal use of signing statements and excessive use of executive orders.

The National Debt: We believe that there should be no increase in the national debt. The burden of debt placed on the next generation is unjust and already threatening our economy and the value of our dollar. We must pay our bills as we go along and not unfairly place this burden on a future generation.

The Federal Reserve: We seek a thorough investigation, evaluation and audit of the Federal Reserve System and its cozy relationships with the banking, corporate, and other financial institutions. The arbitrary power to create money and credit out of thin air behind closed doors for the benefit of commercial interests must be ended. There should be no taxpayer bailouts of corporations and no corporate subsidies. Corporations should be aggressively prosecuted for their crimes and frauds.

Bob Barr is still seeking Dr. Paul's endorsement. Good luck.

Now, hear me out.
I pledged a long time ago that I would write in Ron Paul, but all these little parties are splitting the intellectual vote. What if we could all unite under one candidate? What if we all voted Nader? He clearly has the lead with about 6% in the polls. What if we could convince young kids to vote Nader who would otherwise vote for Obama because he's "the lesser of two evils"? I mean, Obama-Biden and McCain-Palin are not much different.

The scariest part of all this is that lots of kids I talk to think Obama will be assassinated, and then fear Biden has worse foreign-policy than G.W. Bush!!! We lose with either the Republicans or the Democrats! NEITHER is less evil than the other. NEITHER.

SO WHAT if McCain wins!
SO WHAT if Obama wins!

We need to get Nader the highest vote possible and make a statement of UNITY for REAL POLITICAL CHANGE.

Ron Paul won't be president in 2008 because he's way too important for the Campaign for Liberty now... which NEEDS a wholesome and steadfast leader.

So even though I don't care for Nader, I think I might vote for him and encourage others to as well.

Get these videos out now.

Harrowing video film backs Afghan villagers' claims of civilian carnage caused by US troops

U.S. Re-Examines Afghan Civilian Deaths From Attack

In other news...

16 US troops commit suicide in Iraq

Sixteen US troops from the a unit of the Airborne Division have committed suicide inside a military base in Iraq, security sources say.

Iraqi security sources have revealed that 21 US troops had committed suicide inside a former Iraqi air force base 27 days ago, Fars News Agency reported on Monday.

According to the sources, the 21 troops were treated in a hospital but only five soldiers have survived and they are in a critical condition. Security officials said they used potent narcotics to kill themselves.

The troops' motivations for suicide are not known but according to Iraqi sources the servicemen belonged to a unit of the US Airborne Division that was behind the massacre of several Iraqi families-- mostly women and children-- in northern Baghdad, said Ali al-Baghdadi an Iraqi security official.

The suicides took place in the soldiers' dormitory after the dinner time.
"The bodies of the US troops became misshapen such a way that they looked like 5000-year mummies," said a witness.

According to Iraqi officials' estimates, some 600 US troops, including senior officers, have committed suicide in Iraq since the invasion of the country in 2003. Half of the suicide attempts have been successful.

This was too funny to pass up.

Ron Paul says "Thank you!"

Campaign for Liberty
Dear friends,

What a thrilling week we've just had - three days of wonderful events, culminating in the great Rally for the Republic on September 2, which C-SPAN2 covered in its entirety. Americans got to hear more truth in our one day in Minneapolis than in decades' worth of standard political conventions.

I hope you were as impressed with the speakers and the performances as I was. The day reaffirmed for me that the movement on behalf of our philosophy is blessed with brains, talent, and verve.

If you missed it, we'll be making the whole thing available soon. In the meantime, you can watch whatever speakers you'd like to see right here.

Now it's time to turn to the hard work of the Campaign for Liberty. We have our work cut out for us. Our economic woes are being foolishly blamed on the free market. The federal government is taking over Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, as those of us with any sense feared it would. We face the looming prospect of still more wars: with Iran, Russia, and now Pakistan.

We need to inject some sanity into these debates.

Right now, though, I wish simply to thank you for all your sacrifices and hard work. Just when I think I cannot be any more amazed by your commitment to our ideas, you go and surprise me again. I deeply appreciate your devotion to our cause.

Remember one of the most important things our presidential campaign proved: there are millions of us out there. If 1.2 million Americans voted for our ideas in a Republican primary, think of how many more there must be.

We are not alone. We know that now. And when it comes to energy, creativity, and enthusiasm, our side wins hands down. I know these will be our secret weapons as we keep up the fight in these dark times to restore our republic, and to see peace and prosperity transformed from a campaign slogan into a way of life.

Please, recruit one more person to the Campaign for Liberty today.

With my deepest gratitude,

Free Hugs on 6th Street

The Rally for the Republic was all of many things. I came home stocked with bundles of The Liberty Voice Newspapers and Republic magazines.

Last night my buddy James and I went to South Congress Avenue for "First Thursday," which is a street festival of sorts where lots of eclectic shops are setup late into the evening for pedestrians to marvel at. Live music is a given.

So James had a big jug for a drum, and I twirled around in my skirt while playing my harmonica. We handed out free newspapers along the way, and then ran into a whole line of kids giving out free hugs. We hopped in line and embraced all the folks passing by.

Later after all our literature was distributed, James and I walked down to 6th Street to hand out more free hugs. There is something to be learned from our experience. We must have hugged hundreds of people each. One man hugged me so emphatically that he nearly carried me half-way down the street! Some men said they loved me, and others said I turned them on. Sometimes I would walk right up to people sitting on the curbs and offer them hugs. I hugged everyone! The young, the old, the skinny, the fat, the black, the Asian, the hippies, the poor, the sparkly, the nerdy, the officers, the bouncers, and even the smokers. Some people questioned the free hugs, others took pictures. Some said no thanks, and others just smiled.

I believe James and I had a lot of success because we were working as a male and female duo, giving everyone a chance to pick the sex they hugged. There were some openly-admitted homophobes that sneered at James, but then gladly came to my open arms. I found out that people were more likely to hug you if you came within a certain radius of them. Opening your arms got lots of huggers, but opening your arms wide AND taking two steps toward them was almost irresistible.

We hugged all night. The crowd was endless!

Finally we walked back to my car on Congress, hugging all the way, and drove to Magnolia's cafe to split a taco plate.

Here's a video of someone else's hug campaign on 6th Street:

Hug the person next to you. Spread love and freedom. :)
